Itinerary for a Texas Road Trip: Dallas to San Antonio | Texas Road Trip Ideas | Road Tripping from Dallas to San Antonio | Driving from Dallas to San Antonio | A Memory of Us

Last April, Tyler and I took a trip down to Texas for our anniversary. It was a 5 night/6 day trip and we were able to spend time in Dallas, Arlington, Austin, and San Antonio during the trip. Read on for all the details!

We flew in to Dallas early morning on Thursday and immediately went out for some food. We went to Bread Winners Cafe on McKinney Avenue and had the most delicious brunch. The food was amazing (I had BW Benedict and Tyler had a breakfast burrito that was on special) and the decor was super cute. There is a cool outdoor patio and the atmosphere of the entire place is awesome! I have heard that there can be a really long wait here but we had no issues getting in when we arrived!

After our breakfast we walked along McKinney Ave and then went over to Highland Park Village to do some shopping. We also drove through the Highland Park neighborhood to look at all the homes -- there were some beautiful places over there! Tyler and I love checking out houses and walking through model homes so we loved exploring this area.

We were actually staying in Arlington so after we finished exploring the Highland Park area we went to our AirBnB in Arlington. We stayed in the cutest carriage house and were able to spend time at the pool.

Kansas City Royals at Texas Rangers Stadium

Later that afternoon, we went to check out the Legal Draft Beer Company in Arlington. It was a taproom with a cool patio and lots of games to play (Jenga, Corn Hole, etc.). After some drinks we went to the Royals vs. Rangers game at Globe Life Park! If you used to read my blog you know that Tyler and I are huge Royals fans. The stadium was really cool but unfortunately the Royals lost. The score was 0-0 the entire game and went in to extra innings where the Royals eventually lost. (Boo!) We always love checking out new stadiums so despite the loss we had a great time.

Friday we were able to meet up with my friend Erica for lunch! She is currently living in Alrington working as a teacher and luckily she had Friday off work. We went to Mariano's Hacienda for lunch (they had delicious fajitas). Later on that evening, Tyler and I went back to Dallas to meet up with our friends Matt and Mary-Katherine! They took us to the Dallas Truck Yard. It's basically an outdoor beer garden with different food/drink trucks you can check out. After some time there walked over to HG Sply Co to hang out on the rooftop and get a view of downtown Dallas. Before heading back to Arlington we stopped at Steel City Pops for some gourmet popsicles.

The next day we went and toured AT&T Stadium! We didn't actually take a guided tour because we wanted to get on the road to Austin, but we still had fun walking around the stadium. It was SO cool to stand on the field, walk around the stadium, and see the locker rooms. (I was totally fan-girling over the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders locker room!)

After the tour, we started off on our road trip to Austin. It was about a three hour drive to get to Austin from our AirBnB. Since we were only in Austin for one night we really didn't get to see a lot. We spent the night on East 6th Street hopping in and out of bars. We kicked off the night at Sahngri-La and ate at the Baton Creole food truck in back (delicious cajun food). Our other favorite bar for the night was Whisler's. They had great cocktails and a nice patio to hang out on. It wasn't a crazy party scene -- just lots of people relaxing and chatting outside which was exactly what we were looking for! We had breakfast the next day at Biscuits and Groovy. This was another food truck (they were seriously everywhere in Austin) but it was so good!! Highly recommend. After breakfast, we continued our road trip on down to San Antonio.

Comal River Float | River Float Trip Near San Antonio | Texas Road Trip | Dallas to San Antonio Road Trip Ideas |

First stop once we got near San Antonio was actually the Comal River in New Braunfels. This river float is great way to spend a day relaxing, floating, enjoying the warm weather, and just hanging out! We reserved our tube rentals through Groupon, so I would check there for deals if you are interested! It took us around 2 hours and 30 minutes to float the entire river but you could definitely stretch it longer if you wanted. The water was clear and we had the best time. If you are doing this road trip you must take an afternoon and float! We had SO much fun!!

After floating the river, we continued our drive into San Antonio. Tyler has family here so we stayed one night on the river walk and spent the next night with them. The river walk was so fun to see! We did not do a guided boat tour of the river, but if I went back I would definitely take the time to do one. We had dinner that night at Paesanos (great Italian food) and enjoyed sitting outside people watching while we ate. After dinner we walked the rest of the river walk! The next morning we went to the Alamo but did not pay for the guided tour. I feel like you would maybe need to do the guided tour if you were there because I didn't get much out of it just walking around by myself. After the Alamo we went to Tyler's Aunt and Uncle's house where we stayed and caught up with family until we came back to KC.

All in all it was a fun trip and a great way to see a variety of places in Texas. Each city was so different so we got in a wide variety of activities, food, and even weather.  If you have any questions or other suggestions, leave them in the comments!
