Tyler and I spent the week leading up to Labor Day, and Labor Day weekend, exploring Phoenix and Las Vegas! We actually were sent to Phoenix for work. We both work for the same company and were sent there for a week. We were working twelve hour shifts while there, but we still made time to explore the city during our stay. If you would like to pin a picture of this post for future use, please the image below.
We traveled on Monday and worked all day Tuesday, so we did not do much until Wednesday. On Wednesday, we went to the Arizona Diamondbacks game. It was super fun to go to a baseball game in a new city, but it was kind of weird to watch baseball in air conditioning! I didn't really feel like I was at a baseball game, but I definitely enjoyed not dying of heat the whole time : ). There is a swimming pool in right field there, which is kind of crazy to me. The stadium is in downtown Phoenix, so the surrounding area is really fun to walk through.
Thursday, we decided to go on a hike. (Can you tell where we are from, haha?! This was not planned...) We hiked Estrella Mountain. It was nice to be active and outside, but unfortunately because of our hours at work we only had about an hour before the sun started to go down. I wish we would have had more time so we could have taken a longer hike. I was super impressed be all the people who were biking on the trails! I was not expecting that.
Friday was our last day working before a long weekend! We drove four hours from Phoenix to Las Vegas. It was honestly such a pretty drive... I was so surprised at how many mountains there are there! We did not stay on the Las Vegas Strip because after a 60 hour work week, we just needed a couple days to relax. We stayed at the Aston Montelago Village Resort on Lake Las Vegas. The resort was beautiful. It was the perfect place to stay for us since we were so tired from our work week. It was great during the day -- but there was not a lot of night life here. (Probably because the Strip is only a 20 minute drive away.)
In the morning we stopped by the Hoover Dam. It was cool to see, but I was glad it did not cost to go to it. We were ready to go after about 30-45 minutes there. However, the views were incredible! We did not pay for the tour though, which I have heard makes your visit much more interesting.
By Sunday night we were well rested and ready to par-tay ;). We headed to The Strip for the night! It was so fun, especially because Tyler had never been before! I have been multiple times, so I enjoyed being able to show Tyler around. Before this trip, Tyler never had any interest in Vegas but now he cannot wait to go back! We walked through a bunch of hotels and watched the fountain show at the Bellagio.
We ended the night at Caesar's palace where we ate dinner at a sushi restaurant on the top floor of The Forum Shops! Afterwards, we decided to gamble. We both played roulette, but sadly we were not winners :(. I lost $20, but since you get to drink for free while gambling I like to say I broke even! We were in Vegas on Monday, as well, before we headed to the airport.
It was such a fun trip but by our seventh day away from home we were ready to come home. I think it took until yesterday to feel caught up on sleep, haha! Taking vacations is something that is very important to me. I am glad we were able to take advantage of being at the same client site and turn it into a vacation!
I would love it if you would follow me on GFC or Bloglovin'!

Vegas looks like so much fun! Watching a game with air conditioning definitely makes it better, it's so hard to sit there when you're in direct sunlight!

ReplyDeleteI treated my hubby to a trip to Vegas for his 30th birthday. It was so fun but exhausting. We paid for the Hoover Dam tour, and it was actually pretty interesting, but I was still ready to get back to the strip to gamble and drink. :) Glad y'all had a great time!
