Last weekend, Tyler and I spent our time in Minneapolis, MN. It was a quick weekend trip, but we packed quite a bit into it! We booked this trip back in June with Southwest had their $44 flight sale, so we were able to fly round trip for $88! This is the exact same deal we had when we took our trip to Milwaukee last fall. It is beginning to be a wonderful tradition, haha! Below, I'll be sharing the details of our trip.

Tyler and I stayed at the TownePlace Suites in the Warehouse District. We picked it for the proximity to Target Field, but it ended up being in an amazing area! We were within walking distance of the Minneapolis Light Rail (super cheap and easy way to get around the city), restaurants, bars, coffee shops, bike trails, and more!

Our first stop of the trip was to Target Field to watch the Royals play the Twins. If you have been a long time reader of the blog, then you know that Tyler and I are huge Royals fans! The stadium had awesome downtown views, which is so different than Kauffman stadium here in KC. Even though we were the away team, all of the other fans were extremely welcoming! I was a little worried since I was wearing a Royals shirt and a Nebraska hat, but everybody was very nice! Tyler became friends with the people behind us and got some recommendations on things to do and see while there!

After the game, we went to Lyon's Pub to watch the Husker game. It is always fun to find Husker bars in places that are outside of Nebraska. They lost, but we had a great bartender who kept the day fun! Afterwards, we headed to the Fulton Brewery to taste some local beer. What was great was that we were able to walk everywhere we went! It made it extremely easy to not have to worry about parking a rental car or getting a cab in between places. We felt safe walking around at night, too.

After a couple drinks, we decided to go get some dinner at the Smack Shack. Our waiter told us that the restaurant started off as a food truck that just served lobster rolls! It has since expanded to a very popular restaurant. Neither Tyler or I have ever had lobster before, so we decided to try it. Tyler got a lobster roll and I went with lobster mac-n-cheese to play it safe, haha. We both really liked our meals! If you go to the city, I highly recommend you stop here!

The next day, we headed to Mall of America! We ended up spending pretty much the entire day here. We walked around each level before heading home. Neither of us really bought much, as we mostly just window shopped. I joked on Instagram that the candy store was my favorite store in the mall, haha! By Sunday night we were exhausted so we did not do much. We got sushi at Shag Sushi. The food was delicious, but the service was kind of slow. They only had 2 people working the entire restaurant and bar, though. We missed the happy hour, but they seem to have a good one if you plan right.

Monday was our last day there. We didn't really have plans for the day, so we decided to rent bikes from Nice Ride MN. (We also did this in Milwaukee! I'm convinced it's the best way to explore a city.) How it works, is that it costs $6 for a bike rental for 24 hours. However, you have to check your bike into a station every 30 minutes, or else you will be charged an additional $3. The stations are all over the city, so it's very easy to do.

Tyler and I rode all the way from our hotel to the sculpture gardens to see the Spoonbridge and Cherry. It was really cool to see in person! After, we headed back to the Warehouse District for some coffee at Moose and Sadie's. One we were caffeinated, we hopped back on our bikes to go see the University of Minnesota. It was such a cool campus and very bike friendly. Outside of every campus building were what looked like 50+  bikes.! It was kind of crazy! After exploring the campus (and really wishing we were still college students) we headed back to our hotel area. We later calculated that we biked over 14 miles! I was exhausted. (A huge burger at Runyon's was very much so deserved after that haha.)

Neither of us were ready to go home at the end of our trip. I guess that's the sign of a good vacation, though. Tyler and I had an amazing time. If you are looking for a quick weekend getaway, I highly recommend you make the trip! We both agreed that we would go back again to go to a Vikings game. Let me know if you have any questions about our stay.

  10. I like the price for bike rental but it sounds pretty inconvenient to check in every 30 minutes. How did that work out?

    1. It isn't as bad as it seems surprisingly! There are stations all over so it's easy to find one to check in at. There was only one time when we were a little worried about going over time and had to speed back to a station hah! I think they are designed more for commuters in the city, but they are great for getting around! There's a map at each station of where all the different stations are, so it makes it easy to plan your trip. It would be nice if they gave you 45 minutes to hour though!
