I recently uploaded a post all about things my 6 year old got for Christmas last year that he still plays with (read it here) and today I am doing the same style post about my 4 year old! This blog post is all about the things my 4 year old got for Christmas last year that he still plays with a year later. These are all Christmas gifts I would buy for him again because we love them so much. If you are looking for the best gift guide for a 4 year old, you're in the right place. All of these 4 year old boy gift ideas have longevity because we are playing with them months later.

Want to see how this list compares to what I bought him for Christmas last year? Check out this post from last year where I shared what my 4 year old was getting for Christmas. If you still need more 4 year old gift ideas, this blog post is where I shared Easter gift ideas for a 4 year old and many of them would make a great Christmas present! Where able. I will link things at a variety of stores so you can shop your preferred location.

1. Four Year Old Building Toy: Magna-Tiles - Magna-tiles are one of the most played with toys in our house. My kids play for hours with these magnetic building blocks. They are so loved that we had to buy a second set when my youngest turned four because we were running out of pieces! I love these as an open-ended toy for my kids. Their imagination  is really at work when playing with magna-tiles. Most recently, they love to build places we've been -- the zoo, Costco, the library, Sky Zone, etc. -- and then use little characters to "play" in their creations. These are a must have toy in my opinion! Available at Target, Walmart, and Amazon,

2. Four Year Old Pretend Play: Lakeshore Learning Spaceship  - If you are looking for a unique, high quality toy for a 4 year old, I don't think you can go wrong with anything from Lakeshore Learning. (Their Adventures Await Pirate Ship is another pretend play toy we have and love from there.) My son will make up entire imaginative stories with the spaceship. It comes with two astronauts and a little space rover vehicle too. (The astronauts are frequent visitors at whatever magna-tiles creation he makes that day haha.) The spaceship is a great toy to encourage pretend play for little boys. Don't have a Lakeshore Learning nearby? Check out this pretend play rocket ship from Macy's, playmobil rocket ship from Kohl's, or this one from Walmart.

3. Unique Four Year Old Gift Idea: Tracks Around the World Floor Puzzle - My sister actually got this tracks puzzle for my son as a gift and it is now one of my favorite unique gift ideas for a four year old. I don't see anyone else talking about this! It's a typical floor puzzle, but built into the puzzle pieces are tracks a little wind up car can drive on. My son loves to build the puzzle and then play with it!  Here is a similar wind up train tracks puzzle at Target, here is a dinosaur version, and this is the Around the World tracks floor puzzle with 2 wind up cars we have.

4. Book Ideas for a 4 Year Old: Where's Waldo Book - You probably remember the Where's Waldo books from when we were a kids. Well, my kids still love them! There are many different versions now. Search for Waldo and his friends on each page (and their lost items). If your kids like Search and Find books but are ready for more of a challenge, these may be a great option! Available at Walmart, Target and Amazon.

5. Book Ideas for a 4 Year Old: Elbow Grease Books - The Elbow Grease books are a favorite for my son. We have a few, but his favorite is Elbow Grease vs. Motozilla. Elbow Grease is a small monster truck who has four big brothers who are all tougher, faster, smarter, and stronger than him. But that doesn't stop Elbow Grease from trying his best! If you have a vehicle loving kiddo they will love these books! Available at Barnes and Noble, Walmart, Target or Amazon.

6. Lego Set for 4 Year Olds: Lego Creativity box - Both my boys started to get into legos around age 4. I've found that at this age, a creative set where you can make lots of different things gets more use than something with specific instructions. The multiple options keep him engaged with the set longer -- as opposed to something he builds once and then sets on display. Look for them at Amazon, Kohls (my favorite - earn Kohls cash!), Target or Walmart.

7. STEM Activities for 4 Year Olds: Marble Run - I'm a little bit cheating here because my other son received this as a gift when he was younger but I wanted to include it because even though this is 2+ years old my kids both still reach for this! If you don't have marble run it is a great gift for your house. I think this is a great STEM activity for a 4 year old because they have to build a maze and figure out how to get the marble through it (figuring out how to put the open/closed ends together, for example, to ensure the marble doesn't get stuck or fall to the bottom too fast). Look for it at Target or Walmart.

8. Fun Play-Doh Sets: Pizza Play-Doh Set - I admittedly am not the biggest play-doh fan because it is messy. However, I do like to keep it on hand for when I need a busy indoor activity for my kids. Neither kid has played with any play-doh set more than they have played with the pizza play-doh set. In this set they can create and bake a pizza -- cutting out different toppings, rolling the doh, and serving their pizza once done. We actually just got it out over the weekend and they played with this set for almost 45 minutes. This is a really affordable gift idea for a 4 year old, but one my kids really love. Available at Kohls, Target, or Walmart.

9. 4 Year Old Stuffed Animal: Sonic Stuffed Animal - A stuffed animal is a classic gift. At 4 years old, they probably have some pretty specific interests and it is fun to get a new stuffy that fits what they love! In our house, this means Sonic. My in-laws got my youngest a Sonic stuffy last year and he loves that stuffed animal so much. Consider a new one if you haven't purchased a stuffy or blanket in your kiddo's interests! Sonic stuffed animals are available at Walmart and Amazon.

10. Unique Pretend Play Toys for a 4 Year Old: Lakeshore Learning Snap and Build Monster Trucks - More Lakeshore Learning love here but I truly believe they have some of the best toys for kids, including lots of STEM activities, art activities, and pretend play toys. This one here kind of combines all of those as they are snap and build monster trucks. Choose your pieces -- including lights and some fun details and snap them together to make 4 different monster trucks. These pull back and drive too. Again, really well made and something we are still playing with a  year later! Don't have a Lakeshore Learning nearby? These design your own monster trucks on Amazon seem similar.

I hope this blog post shared some unique gift ideas for a 4 year old. I tried to be really specific and only share what we still use and love a year later. These are the 10 best Christmas Gift Ideas for a a 4 year old in my opinion!
