Today I thought it would be really fun to share different ways I get more protein into my kids diet. My kids are currently ages 3 and 5 and getting them to eat meat can be hard. One week they love hamburgers and the next week they won't touch them. Below are different ways I've found to get my kids to eat protein that are easy to implement at home. These are different ideas for how you can get your toddler to eat more protein (that aren't chicken nuggets or hot dogs).

1. Chocolate Milk - Honestly, the easiest addition to the diet! I take their milk and add 1 scoop of Just Ingredients Chocolate Protein Powder* in a blender bottle to mix it up. 2. Add Protein Powder to Yogurt - Not far behind the chocolate milk in terms of another super easy way to add more protein to the diet. My kids love yogurt in the morning. They eat plain Greek yogurt for breakfast in the morning and we add flavor to it through a scoop Just Ingredients Protein Powder*! 4. Skout Organics Kids Snack Bars - The Skout Organic Kids Snack Bars* are my kids favorite granola bars. I first started by purchasing variety packs* but they now have favorite flavors that I buy for them. They love running to the pantry to pick one out. Their current favorite flavors are Apple, Raspberry Rush, Blackberry Lemonade, and Peanut Butter Banana. I love these granola bars because they are made with clean ingredients, they are not crumbly (honestly the reason I tried them in the first place haha), and they each contain at least 2 grams of protein. 2 grams may not seem like a lot, but toddlers need somewhere between 13-19 grams of protein in a day depending on their age/weight. 6. Beef Sticks - Beef sticks are a snack must have in our house. We never go without!! These are perfect for an on-the-go snack and I love that they each have 4 grams of protein. We usually rotate between Chomps*and Country Archer* -- basically whichever is on sale at Costco (although you can find both in many other places). The small sticks will be great to send with my son to Kindergarten in the fall for snack time!

A few weeks ago, I posted a reel on Instagram all about how I improved my sleep. That was a popular post - especially in my DMs and text messages. SO many people out there struggle to fall aslseep.

Ever since I got pregnant with my second son I struggled with sleep. While pregnant, I chalked it up to just pregnancy insomnia and wasn't too worried about it. While in the newborn days, I had no problem sleeping because you are just so tired at that time and will take all the sleep you can get! However, as he got older I found myself regularly struggling to fall asleep. Or if I could fall alseep, something would wake me up in the middle of the night, and I would never be able to fall back asleep. I eventually went to a doctor for it, and all they suggested was taking a sleeping pill. I didn't want to just be on sleeping pills for the rest of my life so I declined the prescription and set out to figure out what wrong with my sleep on my own.

That doctor's appointment was last fall and now I can happily say I sleep 8-9 hours every single night with no sleeping pill required! Below are the five things I did to improve my sleep.

If you are struggling with sleep - my heart goes out to you. Few things are more frustrating than lying in bed awake at 3 AM just waiting to fall asleep and counting down the hours until your alarm goes off. I hope these tips help you get the sleep you need. Here are the 5 things I did to improve my sleep:

1. Stop scrolling and using my phone every night by 9:30. Phone moves to Do Not Disturb at 10:15

I usually am in bed reading every night by 10:30. And while I never scrolled on my phone in bed, it was very common that I was still scrolling while sitting on the couch up until I decided to go to bed. I am now off my phone every night by 9:30. The reason this is so helpful is because everything on my phone keeps my mind spinning. I find ideas online I want to try, am thinking about new places to visit, going through new research or things I've learned, etc. It keeps my mind way too occupied and I can't sleep if I am on my phone too close to bedtime.
In addition to that change, my phone goes into Do Not Disturb every night by 10:15. (This means that no more texts or phone calls will come through my phone so all distrcations are really gone.) When I am off my phone at 9:30 that to me means no more scrolling or playing on social media. But, I'm still available if someone needs me on text or phone. Once 10:15 hits, the only people getting thorugh are contacts I've set as emergency contacts. If your friends or family chat way later regularly and it is keeping you up, you may need to set your phone into Do Not Disturb Mode at the same time you stop scrolling. Fortunately for me, most of my friends are in bed before me so there is rarely a conversation happening that late at night.
Once 9:30 hits my husband and I either start a show or I'm reading a book. As I mentioned in the first paragraph, I am NEVER on my phone in bed. Instead I will read! 2. No snacks 1 hour before bedtime

Very rarely did I eat before bed, but since focusing on my sleep I really tried to have no snacks or food one hour before bedtime. Eating that close to bed meant my stomach never had a change to digest or really settle. I'm uncomfortable when I get into bed if I eat right before going to sleep. Eating too close to your bedtime can cause digestive issues while sleeping so it is best to be done snacking at minimum an hour before bed!

3. Tart Cherry Juice

Tart Cherry Juice is amazing for sleep!! I get mine from Rowe Casa Organics. Tart Cherry Juice is great for sleep because it contains melatonin and tryptophan. I take mine in a shot glass every night around 9:30 but I know a lot of other people like to make fun mocktails with it for night time so there really are a lot of options depending on your prefernce! It provides other health benefits as well as it helps with inflammation, muscle recovery, and more.

4. Magnesium Cream

5. Lotion - I love getting their lotion for travel. I use a different lotion that comes in a larger size every day, but these are great for throwing in a bag on the go! Over the last year, I have gotten incredibly interested in health and wellness. I have learned so much about the products I am using in my home and how they impact my family's health. For me, once I started learning about toxic products and the harm they could do I couldn't get enough. I wanted to learn everything so that I could make better choices for my family.

However, I wasn't in a position financially to just compeltely overhaul everything in my home. And despite the fact that I loved learning about better food choices, natual remedies, and new products it can get really overwhelming when you decide to just completely purchase all new... everything.

To make swapping to low-tox living easy, I started just swapping one product out whenver I ran out of something. When I ran out of handsoap, I repalced it with something better. When I ran out of a disinfectant, I replaced it with something better. This made it attainable! It also meant that as I was starting to run out of something, I could do my research to see how I wanted to replace it.

One thing that makes low-tox living a little bit harder is you need to plan ahead. Although you can get some products on Amazon, there is a lot you need to order from the retailer directly, so shipping can take a little longer. Plan ahead so you are able to use the products and brands that you want!

This list below includes some of the low-tox products I've swapped in that were easy to change. I am not perfect. This is truly a journey to low-tox living for me. 1. Deodorant* - This was actually the very first product I switched to a low-tox version. I've tried a few brands but this is my favorite. I'm on a subcription to save some money. I use the scent Blue Tansy.

2. Hand Soap* - Another item I switched out a long time ago and never looked back! This feels clean, lathers nicely, and doesn't have any harsh chemicals or sketchy fragrance. We now just use the refill option* on a subscription so that we never run out.

3. Teeth Whitening Strips* - I'm sure you've seen these non-toxic teeth whitening strips talked about on Instagram. I started using them a few years ago and really like them! Since I've done a whole box before, now I just do one strip a week to maintain color. If I've got an event or pictures coming up, I'll use them a little more often leading up to that event.

4. Mouthwash* - There's a lot to say about why mouthwash/toothpaste/things we put in our mouths need to be high quality. This one is made of great ingredients that can remineralize your teeth. 5. Lotion* - A recent swap for me since I previously had quite the backstock built up from a Costco visit. This is such an easy thing to swap and it's available on Amazon which makes shipping fast. Comes in a variety of scents but I personally just use the unscented version*.

6. Active Skin Repair* - If you have young kids, just trust me and buy this product. I purchased Active Skin Repair awhile ago to keep in our first aid kit and wow do we get tons of use out of it! With two active little boys, we continually have scrapes or scratches to clean up. This heals their skin so quickly and has no sting! We also get a ton of use out of this to help with diaper rash. I will spray this first and then do a layer of diaper rash cream. Any diaper rash is almost completley gone within 24 hours. Can't say enough good things!

7. Force of Nature Natural Disinfectant* - I've gotta sing this stuff's praises because wow do I love this product! I started using Force of Nature to disinfect my home probably back in July. It has changed the game for me! You make your own cleaner with this product using water, electricity, and solution they provide. It works and smells great. One thing I love about it is that the bottle you make is only good for two weeks. (Hear me out, I realize this sounds crazy.) At first when I read that, I thought it was kind of weird and that I wouldn't like it. However, I really wanted to give Force of Nature a shot so I figured I'd try it anyways. ~6 months later I love this because I feel like I am cleaning my house more often. If I know the bottle is only good for two weeks, I find myself spraying down the counters every night, wiping the high chair, etc. Of course I was cleaning those things in the past but now I feel like I am doing such a better job. Both of my boys have always been prone to ear infections. My oldest had tubes when he was 1.5 and they have started falling out (which was to be expected as he grew). One month after the first tube fell out, he already had an ear infection in that ear! I didn't want to go down that path again so immediately began looking into what options we had. I ordered this and a few days later, my youngest started pulling on his ear. We used these and 3 days later he was less fussy, never pulled on his ear, and never developed a fever. I truly think it saved us a trip to the doctor's and a round of antibiotics!
