a weekend in breckenridge

Tyler and I spent November 21 - 24 in Colorado for our last vacation of 2015. Today I am going to share with you all the details of our trip. I hope it will help in your trip planning. If you have any questions about the things we did, or our stay, please feel free to send me an email. If you would like to pin this post for future reference, please save the pin above!

a day in golden colorado

We flew into Colorado pretty early on Saturday so we had some time to spare before heading to our condo in Breckenridge. We stopped in Golden Colorado to spend our morning. We had breakfast at the Table Mountain Inn and it was delicious! I highly recommend the banana bread french toast if you stop for breakfast. Golden has a very nice main street with great shops. We walked through a couple before heading to the Coors Brewery Tour.

coors brewery tour

Tyler and I really enjoy touring breweries when we go on vacation, so this was really fun for us! The tour itself was nothing special. They give you a hand held speaker that you control. As you walk through the brewery, it explains what you are looking at during different parts of the tour. Each area has a number that you type into the speaker and it will tell you about what you are seeing. After the tour, you are given 3 beer samples. They do not have every beer available, but they do have quite a few free options! I was surprised to learn that Coors owns Blue Moon, Leinenkugel's, Redd's, etc. I chose Blue Moon for my free drinks. It was really cool to see such a big brewery. However, the tour of Lake Front Brewery in Milwaukee definitely topped this one overall!

breckenridge condo rental

We rented a condo through HomeAway. Neither of us have ever done a condo rental before, but we were surprised at how easy to was to find a place that was just right for us! We rented this Ski-In and Ski-Out Condo . We were right at the base on Peak 9 and one block away from Main Street. We walked to go skiing and even walked to go out to dinner! I would highly recommend our condo if you are traveling in a group of 2-4. It was perfect for just the 2 of us and the living room had a pull out couch. I think it would be kind of cramped with a group of 4, but you could definitely make it work! We loved having a condo because we had so much more room to spread out. It was nice to have a living space so that we had somewhere to relax besides just a hotel bed. Additionally, the location was perfect for coming back to the condo during lunch. Since we had a full kitchen we cooked breakfast and lunch each day we were in our condo. I love that we were able to save money and that it was so easy to get back to the mountain! (We just had to walk out the back door of the condo, ski down a slight hill, and we were at a chairlift!)

a weekend at breckenridge

Our first day on the mountain was honestly incredible! We really lucked out with the weather. We took a risk going to Breckenridge for a ski trip when we did because the mountain opened just one week before. Luckily, they had a big snowfall the day before we got to Colorado so there was plenty of fresh snow for us to ski/board on! The whole mountain was not open, but we had plenty of runs available to keep us entertained for the 2 days of skiing. I think we would have been able to be entertained for one more day even! The views from the mountains were incredible. If you have never been, you must take a trip to the mountains one day! They are breathtaking.

skiing at breck

After day one on the mountain we went back to our condo to relax a little bit. Both Tyler and I were exhausted! That night we met up with my Aunt and Uncle for dinner. We went to South Ridge Seafood Grill. It was so yummy! Tyler and I split the salmon dinner and then had a side of crab cakes. Both were very delicious! The restaurant was very nice and I loved how close it was to where we were staying. Even if you don't ski, I really think you could spend a weekend in Breck! There are so many shops and restaurants right on the main street. Once you got to your condo, you would not need a car to get around again because everything is so close!

We went back on the mountain the next day. We hit the slopes for somewhere between 6 and 7 hours before calling it a day. I thought I was in decent shape, but skiing is really exhausting! My legs were quite tired after day 2, haha. Luckily our condo had a hot tub we were able to use! That night we headed into Silverthorne, Colorado. Silverthorne was less than a 30 minute drive away. I had to return my skies there and then we shopped at some of their outlet stores. They have an incredible Colombia outlet which we spent way too much time in!

We decided to explore that area a little that evening and went to dinner at the Dillion Dam Brewery. The restaurant was very cool inside! It had an upper and lower level, lots of televisions showing Monday Night Football, and great food. We stayed for awhile watching football, eating, trying some of their beer, and just chatting. Honestly all the food we had during this trip was great, but this was probably my favorite meal!

The next day, we did some shopping in Breckenridge. We walked into so many stores, but only bought one thing (croakies for Tyler haha). We were a little pressed for time before we had to head back to Denver to get to the airport. It would have been nice to have had one more day just to dedicate to shopping in Breckenridge because I really didn't feel like we had enough time. If you are taking a trip to Breckenridge in the future, I would highly recommend allocating time to exploring the main street!

It was a great trip to Breckenridge and I am so glad we were able to get back to the mountains! Our first vacation with each other was a ski trip to Copper Mountain so it was really fun to go back to the same area. I  would definitely recommend taking a weekend trip to Breckridge. There are so many fun things to do there and you could easily spend a weekend in Breckenridge (whether you ski or not)! If you want to check out more of my travel guides, head here.

  6. It looks beautiful there - and it seems like you had a wonderful time! I've only ever visited Denver ... and that was for a conference so I didn't get much of a chance to do a lot of exploring.

  9. I've always wanted to go to Breckenridge! A lot of people back home in Georgia would travel there for skiing and vacation, and I have it built up in my mind as this magical place because of them, haha. This just further proves I need to go---I'm sure I can convince Freddie we should go by talking about all the breweries ;)

This makes me really want to go back to the mountains, I think I'm going to have to convince Matt to make an annual snow trip a tradition one of these years. Maybe in a few years I can say "oh it's for the kids!" ;)

  28. Love the pictures! Some of my family members used to actually OWN Breckenridge Ski Slopes many years ago, but we didn't know it until after they had sold it - darn it. However, one of our favorite places to ski is called Crested Butte, Colorado and it too is simply breathtaking! I highly recommend you going there if you ever get the chance! It is just gorgeous. :)

  30. It is crazy when you find out how many breweries the big ones really own, isn't it?? I love doing brewery tours in every city I can as well. So much fun!!! We plan to tour some in Gatlinburg when we are there after Christmas. I love all your pictures, looks like such a fun trip! Send me some snow please? Or cooler temps. I would settle with cooler temps.

  46. Colorado is one of God's gifts to USA. It is in my opinion one of the prettiest states in US. The mountains, the view, all the pretty snow they get. I have only been once but I loved it and would go again in a heartbeat. Looks like you had a great weekend in Colorado, with your man. =)
